Community Supported Agriculture – or CSA – is a model of farming and food distribution that connects consumers directly with local farms like Shelter Farm!
In a CSA, individuals or households become members by purchasing shares or subscriptions at the beginning of the growing season. In return, you receive a portion of fresh local produce on a regular basis, throughout the growing season.
Shelter Farm offers a variety of CSA options:
SPRING (8wks): Mar 26th to May 16th – $200
SUMMER (14wks): Jun 4th to Sep 6th – $350
FALL (8wks): Sept 11th – Oct 30th – $200
10% off if you buy all 3 seasons
What are the benefits of joining a CSA?
– Enjoy fruits & vegetables harvested at peak ripeness, which means better flavour and nutrition.
– You’ll have access to unique or heirloom varieties not commonly found in grocery stores.
– Your purchase directly supports the housing and recovery programs of the Port Alberni Shelter Society.
– Buying local helps reduce the carbon footprint of your food.
– Typically, CSA shares cost less than buying the same quantity of fresh produce at a grocery store.
