Our first fall harvest boxes were distributed this week through our CSA program! Community Supported Agriculture – or CSA – is a model of farming and food distribution that connects consumers directly with local farms like Shelter Farm.
In a CSA, individuals or households become members by purchasing shares or subscriptions at the beginning of the growing season. In return, you receive a portion of fresh local produce on a regular basis, throughout the growing season.
This week, our subscribers will enjoy 1 lb chard, 1 lb mizuna (leafy green), pears, basil, cucumber and tomatoes.
Never heard of mizuna? It is a Japanese mustard green. Great for salads and soup or add to your favourite pasta or rice dishes!
If you didn’t get a chance to register for our Fall CSA, you don’t have to miss out! You can still order a one-time harvest box through our retail website: https://shelter-farm.localline.ca/retail Each box contains mixed fresh vegetables that were locally grown on Shelter Farm using organic practices. Value $22 each. Boxes can be picked up from our friends at The Salty Woodman.
Don’t forget – when you buy from Shelter Farm, you are supporting the housing and recovery programs of the Port Alberni Shelter Society (PASS). Thank you!
