We’re proud to share our new logo, an image that captures who we are, what we do, and what we believe in.
At first glance, you’ll notice a heart. But look closer and you’ll see it’s more than a symbol of love. It’s also a shelter, a safe space. At its centre is a person with their arms raised, embodying hope, resilience and the strength to move toward a brighter future.
That’s exactly what we strive to support at the Port Alberni Shelter Society. We don’t just provide housing. We offer a range of programs designed to meet people where they’re at. Our services include an Overdose Prevention Site (OPS), a Sobering Centre, a Therapeutic Recovery Centre (substance treatment and recovery program), and several social enterprises like Shelter Farm. We also run harm reduction programs, a training kitchen, and a food recovery and distribution initiative. Through all of this, we aim to offer dignity, connection, and opportunities to those who need it most.
The lighter blue arch forming the top of the heart symbolizes the care and protection offered by our community. The deeper blue base represents strength and stability. Together, they reflect the dual role we play, meeting people in moments of crisis while supporting their journey toward long-term stability and independence.
The rounded font was chosen to feel welcoming and accessible. The calm, cool tones in our palette reinforce what we believe, that safety and compassion must be at the core of everything we do.
This logo is more than a new look. It is a reflection of our mission and a reminder of our commitment to keep people at the heart of our work, to lead with care, and to help create a future where everyone in Port Alberni has a place to call home.
You’ll start noticing our new logo showing up in different places, but it’ll take a little time to fully roll out. From events and the website to vehicles and signage, the updates are happening gradually. Thanks for your patience as we make the switch.
