John was a tireless advocate whose unwavering dedication to the Port Alberni Shelter Society (PASS) over six remarkable years left a profound impact on our community. His life’s work was driven by a passion to help others and to make a difference.
During his time with PASS, John was a strong proponent of the Therapeutic Recovery Community (TRC) treatment model for substance use. John visited several TRC facilities throughout Europe and North American and brought back invaluable insights that enriched our local approach to recovery and support.
In addition to championing TRC, John’s advocacy was regularly seen through media interviews, presentations, meetings and written reports. He spread awareness and fostered an understanding of the issues faced by those he championed. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him an exceptional networker, enabling him to bring together resources and support that benefited our society’s many programs.
John was friendly, witty and always eager to meet for a coffee. He loved coffee! His genuine nature and sense of humour made him a pleasure to be around.
The loss of John is deeply felt by all who knew him and worked alongside him. He will be remembered for his kindness and commitment, which made our community better in countless ways. John will be greatly missed, but his impact on our lives and community will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family and friends.
