Community Supported Agriculture – or CSA – is a model of farming and food distribution that connects consumers directly with local farms like Shelter Farm!
In a CSA, individuals or households become members by purchasing shares or subscriptions at the beginning of the growing season. In return, you receive a portion of fresh local produce on a regular basis, throughout the growing season.
Shelter Farm offers a variety of CSA options:
SPRING: Mar 25th to May 15th – $200 – $220
SUMMER: Jun 3th to Sep 5th – $350 – $380
FALL: Sept 9th to Oct 30th – $200 – $220
10% off if you buy all 3 seasons
What are the benefits of joining a CSA?
- Enjoy fruits & vegetables harvested at peak ripeness, which means better flavour and nutrition.
- You’ll have access to unique or heirloom varieties not commonly found in grocery stores.
- Your purchase directly supports the housing and recovery programs of the Port Alberni Shelter Society.
- Buying local helps reduce the carbon footprint of your food.
- Typically, CSA shares cost less than buying the same quantity of fresh produce at a grocery store.
